The new regime allows a standard deduction of ₹75,000 for salaried taxpayers and a section 87A rebate of up to ₹60,000, which makes taxable income up to ₹12 lakh effectively tax-free (₹12.75 lakh of salary). Health & education cess of 4% applies on the tax.

The old regime keeps deductions such as 80C (₹1.5 lakh), 80D, HRA and home-loan interest, a ₹50,000 standard deduction, and an 87A rebate up to ₹12,500 for taxable income up to ₹5 lakh. Choose the regime that leaves you more money — for most salaried people with limited deductions, the new regime now wins.
